Stop Guessing With Your Marketing
Guesswork feels like progress. You are busy, things are getting posted, the calendar is full. Then you look at the numbers and cannot tell which of it did anything.

Guesswork feels like progress until you look at the numbers
The tell is always the same. I ask an owner what is working and there is a pause, and then a sentence that starts with "I think."
I think the Instagram is helping. I think people find us through Google. I think that campaign did okay.
None of that is a criticism. It is what happens when you are running a business and marketing is the eleventh thing on the list. But "I think" is expensive, because you keep funding the thing you think is working and starving the thing that actually is.
And busy hides it beautifully. Posting five times a week feels like doing marketing. It might be. You would have no way of knowing.
Replace opinions with a feedback loop
A feedback loop is not a dashboard with forty metrics. It is four questions, answered in order, every month.
What are we trying to get somebody to do? One action. Book a call. Request a quote. Walk in. If you name three, you will get none of them.
What did we do this month to make that happen? Write it down before the month starts, not after.
What actually happened? The number. Not impressions or reach. The thing tied to money.
What are we changing because of that? This is the step everybody skips, and it is the only one that turns data into an advantage.
That is it. Four questions, half an hour a month. Do that for a year and you will know more about your own business than most agencies could tell you.
Pick the one number that matters
The instinct is to track everything, which produces a dashboard nobody opens.
Pick one number that maps to revenue and make it the number. For a dental practice that is new patient consults. For a roofer it is quotes requested. For a commercial real estate broker it is qualified enquiries. For us it is discovery calls booked.
Everything else is diagnostic. Traffic tells you whether people are arriving. Time on page tells you whether the message is landing. Reviews tell you whether the experience matches the promise. Those are useful for figuring out why the main number moved, but they are not the main number.
Followers, in almost every business I have worked with, are not any of these things. Neither is a redesign nobody asked for, which is usually a positioning problem wearing a design costume.
What certainty looks like in practice
It looks boring, and that is the point.
You know which channel brings your best clients, and you can say it in one sentence without hedging. You know roughly what a customer costs to acquire. You know which piece of content people mention on calls. When something dips, you have a short list of likely causes instead of a shrug.
You also stop having the argument. Most marketing disagreements inside a company are two people with different opinions and no data, which is unwinnable. Numbers end that conversation quickly and everybody gets on with it.
None of this requires enterprise tooling. A spreadsheet and the discipline to open it monthly beats software nobody looks at.
Start here if you are starting cold
Give it ninety days. Month one, write down the one number and where it stands today. Month two, change exactly one thing and note what you changed. Month three, look at the number and decide whether the change earned its place.
Changing one thing at a time feels agonisingly slow. It is also the only way to ever learn anything, because if you change five things and the number moves you still know nothing.
The businesses that compound are not the ones with the best ideas. They are the ones that found out which of their ideas were true, and then did more of those.
If you want somebody outside the business to tell you what your numbers are actually saying, that is exactly what a free analysis is for. And if you want the arithmetic on what the guessing has been costing you, we added it up here.
